Instructions
Follow the simple instructions below to make this easy homemade truffles recipe.
STEP 1: Crush biscuits. Place the cream crackers into a food processor and pulse until crushed. Do not pulse until super fine, you want the biscuits to have some texture.
STEP 2: Combine all ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, add the crushed biscuits, condensed milk, cocoa powder, vanilla, melted butter, coffee, and 2 tablespoon of desiccated coconut.
STEP 3: Mix. Use a rubber spatula to mix all the ingredients together. Make sure the truffle mixture is well combined.
STEP 4: Chill. Cover the mixing bowl filled with the chocolate mixture in plastic wrap and refrigerate the truffle mixture for about an hour, until firm and easy to roll.
STEP 5: Roll in small balls. Use a cookie scoop or spoon to portion the truffle mixture into balls of about 20 grams each and then roll them using the palms of your hands into smooth balls. Place the rolled truffles onto a tray.
STEP 6: Coat in coconut. Add the remaining coconut to a bowl, and roll each truffle in the desiccated coconut until well coated. Serve, and enjoy!
Hint: Allow the truffle mixture to chill properly, this makes the rolling much easier as the mixture will stick less to your hands.
Variations
You can get creative with what you choose to coat your condensed milk truffles in, instead of coconut you can use chocolate sprinkles, powdered sugar, or cocoa powder.
If you don’t like coconut you can choose to omit this ingredient entirely.
Equipment
You don’t need any fancy equipment for this recipe, you don't even need an oven! Just a mixing bowl, spatula, and airtight container for storage. You can choose to use a melon baller to shape the truffles if desired.
Storage
Store these easy chocolate truffles in an air-tight container at room temperature out of direct sunlight for about 7 days.
These truffles can be made ahead and frozen, do this by placing the truffles in a freezer-safe container or bag. They can be frozen for up to three months. Defrost the truffles in the fridge overnight, before bringing them to room temperature and serving.
Top tip
Follow the top tips below to make sure your truffles come out perfectly.
- Don’t over-pulse the biscuits, you don’t want them to have a sandy consistency and resemble fine breadcrumbs for the best texture.
- Allow the mixture to chill completely before rolling them, otherwise, you will struggle and your hands will get very messy!
- Only roll the truffles in the coconut once all of them have been shaped, this way you will work quicker and cleaner!
FAQ
This recipe can technically work with lots of different types of biscuits, the taste will just change! Since this recipe uses sweet condensed milk it is best to choose a plain biscuit that isn’t sweetened or flavoured. Plain digestive biscuits or marie biscuits will also work.
You haven’t chilled the chocolate truffle mixture for long enough, it chills and firms in the fridge so make sure it has had enough time there.
These homemade chocolate truffles are one of my most favorite treats, perfect with a cup of tea or hot chocolate after a long day when we all have those chocolate cravings! This is a great recipe to make when you are short on time but still in dire need of a sweet treat!

In Russia it has name "Potatos", very popular there.
Only instant coffe is not used.
Russians stick nuts on the desert balls for it looks like sprouted potato.
