Key Ingredients

- Milk and dark chocolate - Use good-quality chocolate bars instead of chocolate chips, as chips often contain stabilizers that stop them from melting smoothly. The combination of milk and dark chocolate gives these truffles a balanced sweetness. If you enjoy working with melted chocolate, you'll love this Chocolate Frosting with Melted Chocolate.
- Heavy cream - Heavy cream has a fat content above 36% and is often sold as heavy whipping cream. Please don't confuse this with double thick cream; it isn't the same!
- Oreos - You'll use Oreos in two ways: crushed into fine crumbs for the truffle mixture, and cut into pieces for the bat wings. Look for the classic chocolate sandwich cookies.
- Chocolate vermicelli - These thin chocolate sprinkles give the truffles their fun, textured coating. If you can't find them, regular chocolate sprinkles work well too, or you can also roll the truffles in cocoa powder or more Oreo crumbs.
- Edible candy eyes - Find these in the baking aisle. A tiny dab of melted chocolate is all you need to stick them onto the truffles.

These bat truffles also make adorable cupcake toppers! Try placing one on top of these Chocolate Cupcakes with Lindt Frosting or these Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes.
For an even simpler version, skip the Oreo wings and decorate the truffles with candy eyes only to create little monster truffles. You can also swap the chocolate vermicelli for orange, purple, or black Halloween sprinkles.
How to Make No-Bake Chocolate Halloween Bat Truffles
Instructions for No-Bake Chocolate Truffles

- Step 1: Finely chop the milk and dark chocolate and place them into a medium bowl.

- Step 2: Add the cream and butter to a saucepan set over medium heat. Heat until the butter has melted and the mixture is just before boiling.

- Step 3: Pour the hot cream mixture over the chopped chocolate and stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.

- Step 4: Add the Oreo crumbs and vanilla extract and stir to combine. Refrigerate for about 15 minutes until the mixture is easy to roll.
How to Decorate Bat Truffles
- Step 5: Roll the mixture into 12 round balls of about 25 grams each. Pour the chocolate vermicelli into a bowl and roll each truffle in the vermicelli to coat.
- Step 6: Separate the Oreos and remove the inner frosting. Use a sharp knife to cut each Oreo half in half; these will form the bat's wings.
- Step 7: Place each set of wings close together, then dip one side of a truffle into melted chocolate and place the truffle over the wings. Continue with the rest of the truffles, and do not move them until the chocolate has set.
- Step 8: Decorate each truffle with two candy eyes dipped in melted chocolate. Allow the chocolate to set, then serve and enjoy!
Storage
Store any leftover truffles in an airtight container in the fridge for about 5 days. Bring them to room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes before serving for the best texture.
To freeze the truffles, freeze them before adding the Oreo wings and candy eyes, in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Thaw them in the fridge overnight, then decorate.
Expert Tips
- Chop the chocolate as finely as you can so that it melts quickly and evenly in the hot cream.
- Do not let the cream mixture boil; heat it until it is just before boiling.
- Use a kitchen scale to weigh each truffle at about 25 grams so that they are all the same size.
- Melt the extra chocolate for decorating in short bursts in the microwave, stirring in between, so that it doesn't burn.
- Do not move the bat truffles until the chocolate has fully set; otherwise, the wings may slip.
No-Bake Chocolate Halloween Truffles FAQs
Yes, these are a great make-ahead treat. You can roll the truffles in the vermicelli up to 3 days ahead and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge. For the freshest look, add the Oreo wings and candy eyes on the day you plan to serve them, as the cookie wings can soften as they sit.
Yes, but freeze them before decorating. Place the rolled truffles in an airtight container and freeze for up to 1 month. Thaw them in the fridge overnight, then add the Oreo wings and candy eyes.
The mixture most likely needs more time in the fridge. Chill it for another 10 to 15 minutes and check again. Make sure the chocolate was finely chopped and fully melted so that the mixture is smooth before chilling.
You can, but chocolate chips are made to hold their shape and may not melt as smoothly. For the silkiest truffles, use good-quality chocolate bars that have been finely chopped.
If you can't find candy eyes, pipe two small dots of melted white chocolate onto each truffle and add a tiny dot of melted dark chocolate in the center of each one using a toothpick.
The wings are held on with melted chocolate, which acts as a glue. Place each pair of Oreo wing pieces close together on parchment paper, then dip one side of a truffle in melted chocolate and set it on top of the wings so the chocolate touches both pieces. Do not move the truffles until the chocolate has fully set. If your kitchen is warm, you can place the tray in the fridge for about 10 minutes to help the chocolate set faster.

- 100 g dark chocolate
- 60 ml heavy cream
- 30 g unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 50 g Oreo crumbs
- 100 g chocolate vermicelli sprinkles
- 30 g melted chocolate
- 6 Oreos
- Edible candy eyes
Instructions
- Finely chop the milk and dark chocolate, then place them into a medium bowl.
- Add the cream and butter to a saucepan set over medium heat. Heat until the butter is melted, and just before the mixture reaches a boil.
- Pour the hot cream mixture over the chopped chocolate and stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add the Oreo crumbs and vanilla extract and stir to combine. Refrigerate until the mixture is easy to roll, about 15 minutes.
- Roll the mixture into 12 round balls of about 25 grams each. Pour the chocolate vermicelli into a bowl and roll the truffles in the vermicelli to coat.
- Separate the Oreos and remove the inner frosting. Use a sharp knife to cut each Oreo in half; these will form the bat's 'wings'. Place each set of wings close to each other, and then dip one side of a truffle into melted chocolate and place the truffle over the wings. Continue with the rest of the truffles; do not move them until the chocolate has set. Decorate each truffle with two candy eyes that have been dipped in melted chocolate.
Notes
- Do not let the butter and cream mixture boil.
- If you have left the truffle mixture in the fridge for too long, you may need to warm up the mixture in the microwave for a few seconds to be able to roll it.
