Regardless of age, Oreos seem to ignite a sense of excitement. There is something about this chocolate sandwich cookie that makes people a little crazy, and that’s why I love using it in birthday bakes! And my favourite way to celebrate this cookie is with these easy vegan vanilla oreo cupcakes that everyone can enjoy!
Also, can you believe it’s vegan? I was a little shocked to hear that a few years ago and since then vegan Oreo cupcakes have been a go-to for my birthday bakes. So, when you want to bake something that everyone can enjoy, including vegans, these easy vegan vanilla cupcakes are an absolute win!

How to Make Vegan Vanilla Oreo Cupcakes
Vegan baking can be a little scary, flaxseed eggs? Shortening (what is this even)? Flours I’ve never heard of and wouldn’t know where to look for. Avocadoes in icing? I know there is a place for baking with healthier ingredients but sometimes, the only prerequisite is that it is vegan!
The ingredients in this recipe are probably already in your cupboard, making this recipe that much more lovable. You will need the following ingredients for these vegan cupcakes
- Granulated white sugar
- Self-raising flour
- Salt
- Plant based milk (I used soya milk)
- Sunflower oil
- White wine vinegar
- Vanilla extract
For the icing, you will need
- Icing sugar
- Vegan butter (I used Flora Vegan butter – and this is super easy to find)
- Oreos
How Do I Bake the Perfect Cupcake?
Baking the perfect cupcakes comes down to following the recipe and understating your oven. In my free guide on cupcake mastery, I list a variety of issues that may come up when baking cupcakes. These issues are the same for both vegan and non-vegan, so please do sign up for this to take your cupcakes to the next level!
What is the Best Temperature to Bake Cupcakes at?
Most recipes will tell you to bake cupcakes at 180C for about 15 minutes. If I were to follow these guidelines, I would have black-bottomed cupcakes at every attempt. So, I set my oven at 170C, set the timer for 12 minutes, and took it from there.
Knowing your oven, and this comes with time and taking notes, will help you bake the perfect cupcakes.
How to Frost Cupcakes for Beginners
Many people think that using a piping bag is a little advanced for their kitchen skills but I think it is actually the easiest way to decorate cupcakes.
Make sure your icing is soft and fluffy though because trying to pipe frosting that hasn’t been beaten enough is very difficult. I love trying out different nozzles for decorating cupcakes and also have used Ziplock bags if I run out of piping bags!
